Cross-Border Efficiency: Belmont’s Role in Streamlining ERAM Integration Between FAA and NavCanada

Cross-Border Modernization in Air Traffic Management

Next year, the FAA will deploy a powerful new feature within ERAM (En Route Automation Modernization): the automated handoff capability between FAA and NavCanada facilities. This marks a critical step forward in streamlining coordination across the U.S.-Canada border and represents a significant investment by both governments.

Given the complexity and scope of the initiative, meeting deployment timelines is essential for success.

Our Role: Technical Support for Smooth Integration

The Belmont Group was tapped to provide technical expertise to the FAA’s testing organization, directly supporting the development and rollout of this new capability.

Our contributions included:

  • Delivering in-depth briefings on operational issues

  • Collaborating closely with Air Traffic personnel to resolve key challenges

  • Supporting cross-functional testing activities to validate system performance

  • Proactively addressing interoperability and procedural concerns during the integration phase

Results: Ahead of Schedule and On Track for Success

Thanks to strong collaboration and proactive problem-solving, testing is currently ahead of schedule. All indicators point to an on-time deployment of the ERAM handoff capability next year.

This success underscores the value of early engagement, technical clarity, and continuous communication between FAA, NavCanada, and industry partners.

Why It Matters

This capability enhances international coordination, reduces controller workload, and improves the efficiency of cross-border traffic flows. It’s a win for safety, reliability, and operational excellence across both aviation systems.

At The Belmont Group, we’re proud to contribute to projects that have real-world impact on the National Airspace System (NAS) and international airspace integration.
